With a Stratocaster you need to work at the perfect tone, and that weeds out the wanna-be's! I call it the "Green Bastard" because it took alot of tinkering to make it perfect, but it's worth it. I own another strat and an 85 Les Paul but this one is the one I pick up the has a certain mojo. Any lower and you will get buzzing because of the staggered pickup magnets on the G & D. I have found that the tone is better with heavier strings 11's and the action between 6-7/64 low E and 5/64 high E. The finish is great, especially with the mint green pickguard.
I especially prefer setting the switch in the 2 position (bridge and mid) with the bridge tone at 10 and the mid tone at 5. But Im with you, out of all my guitars its certainly my number 1.
Its had a few pickup changes in its 11 years, and its pretty beat up considering I only play here at home lol. I customized the switch so one tone knob works for the neck and mid pickup and one tone for the bridge pickup. Ive got a black highway one strat with a maple board. They are a bit noisy, but that is the way it should be. Although you do need to tinker with the pickup height, tone and volume and amp settings to get that special tone, but when you do.simply amazing. I wouldn't trade it for any other modern strat.
